Dear families of kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students,
Welcome Hillclimbers! I am excited to be your Urbana Elementary K-2 Principal and looking forward to another year of learning and growing together.
I love being a Climber! I began my career as a kindergarten teacher in Urbana in 2000 before becoming the K-5 Assistant Principal and now in my second year as the K-2 Principal. Please join me and my dedicated, highly-qualified staff as we work together to support the academic and social emotional needs of our students to help them grow and achieve their best.
The family-school connection is essential! Good two-way communication between families and school is vital to your child's success. Reach out to your child’s teacher(s) often. Get suggestions or ideas from him or her on ways you can help and support your child’s academic or social emotional growth at home. Attend parent-teacher conference nights in November and again in February. Sign up for Parent Access to monitor your child’s academic performance. Get involved with other families and staff and join our family-staff organization The Climber Club. Participate in school activities and events, such as our music programs, PBL Exhibition and Literacy Nights, and Climber Club events. Or volunteer to help in your child’s classroom or as a mentor with our Little Climbers Club. Getting involved shows your child how much you care and value education!
I am honored to be your child’s principal and I am here to help in any way I can. Should you have any questions or concerns throughout the school year, please feel free to contact me at (937) 653-1453, ext. 2124, or by email at Melanie.Anders@urbanacityschools.org.
Together we can make a difference!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Melanie Anders
Urbana Elementary School
Dear Hillclimber Families,
Welcome to the 2022 - 2023 school year. As the principal of Grades 3 - 5, I want to welcome you to our school community. I believe that all children can learn and deserve a safe, exciting and successful educational experience. High expectations for student achievement combined with sufficient support and interventions will result in academic growth and success for all students.
As demands of teaching children have increased, it has become even more evident that we all need to work together to ensure that our children reach their fullest potential. I believe that all of us - the school and the community - must work together as an extended family. It’s our responsibility to empower children with the creative, intellectual, and decision-making skills necessary for them to become academically, socially, physically, and emotionally successful.
You are invited to be an active participant at Urbana Elementary. Whether you are a classroom volunteer, a member of Climber Club, or a special event participant, you are encouraged to be involved! Educational research clearly shows that when parents are more involved in their child’s education the child’s likelihood for academic success greatly increases.
The staff and I are committed to collaborating and communicating with families on a consistent basis. By keeping the lines of communication open, we can actively work together. We look forward to building relationships with the students, families, and our community. If you are interested in volunteering or visiting, please feel free to contact us by phone, email or the Remind app.
I wish you all a wonderful school year. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me and know that my door is always open. This will be a year full of learning, fun, and building community! I am so excited to have you join our team on this journey.
Principal of Grades 3 - 5
